I feel really Christmasy primarily due to a fabulous weekend at No 1 enjoying some festive cheer .
Firstly a lovely evening at the Cricket decorated beautifully ready for the Christmas season , locals laughing and joking and a few drinks to help us relax ready for the weekend. As we walked the 50 metres back to the cottage the stars were especially beautiful and shone brighter than ever which was especially welcome as the weather forecast was bleak !
My friends this weekend other than my sister were from school days Lisa had never visited this special part of South Devon and Louise had joined me as a 17 year old on the A level field trip many years ago . I then felt duty bound to give them a little history lesson. They were fascinated and it was a struggle for them to put the “Sisters against the sea ‘ down ( a fantastic book about the history of the area) Louise also felt the special bond with the area from our wonderful trip in the ’70’s.
Dartmouth has always been one of our favourite places to visit with its shops, restaurants, boat trips and history. It looked better than ever as it welcomed locals and visitors for its Candlelit Dartmouth Festive Weekend held each year the first weekend of December. It includes workshops ,free park and ride ,stalls with gifts and crafts as well as decorations, best dressed dogs and a lantern processions.
As we strolled along the quaint back streets looking at the shops, listening to the festive music, a welcome surprise popped up literally. The Sail Loft on Foss Street is a pop up bar in one of Dartmouths oldest buildings. Full of character and charm and offering a relaxed and fun environment further enhanced by becoming a Santas grotto for much of December . It is decorated with snow, skis ,furry blankets and serving mulled wine and hot chocolate as well as all the usual and playing the compulsory Christmas music . Perfect !
Sunday morning was wonderful another dose of fresh air then Christmas decorating and music followed by a delicious Sunday roast at the Cricket . We returned to the south east feeling refreshed ,full of Christmas cheer and definitely making the most of our weekend and making happy memories!
